KD Lang
At this point, for me, the most beautiful song and performance is Roy Orbison’s crying, sung by KD Lang, at a memorial tribute to Orbison, after his death, 1990. I’ve watched it so much on YouTube, that it regularly plays in my mind, in many situations, including while meditating, where I am connected to the breath, but with mostly no other thoughts, Except KD Lang is playing softly. Just lately, I’ve come to understand this following meaning to the lyrics:
I was all right for a while, I could smile for a while(This I, is the ego, doing its regular things.)But I saw you last night you held my hand so tight
(This you, is the true self, we at times come upon.)As you stopped to say helloOh, you wished me well, you couldn't tellThat I've been crying over you, crying over you(Longing for our true self.)And you said, so longLeft me standing all aloneAlone and crying, crying, crying, cryingIt's hard to understand but the touch of your handCan start me crying
I thought that I was over youBut it's true, so trueI love you even more than I did beforeBut darling, what can I doFor you don't love me
(The true self wants the true self, not the ego.)and I'll always beCrying over you, crying over you
Yes, now you're gone and from this moment onI'll be crying, crying, crying, cryingYeah, crying, crying over you
